Keto Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry (Paleo – Low carb)

Keto Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry (Paleo – Low carb)

Some foods are meant to be served with each other as if they only shined when eaten one besides the other. Some of these ingredients are beef and broccoli. Let’s face it; it’s the only way some of us eat our greens.

There are a few secrets behind the perfect beef and broccoli, though, the meat must be absolutely tender, and the broccoli should never be soggy; you want it snappy.

Then there’s the sauce, beef and broccoli shine best when cooked with an Asian-inspired dressing comprising garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes and oyster sauce. A fistful of mushrooms helps too. Here’s all you need to know about this quick and tasty meal.

The Weird History Behind Beef And Broccoli

We can’t deny beef and broccoli are fantastic together, but how did this straightforward dish come to be? You’ll be surprised.

We think this dish comes from China, but a few things don’t check out. For starters, eating beef in China is rare, and broccoli, as we know it in the west, doesn’t even exist!

Beef and broccoli is most likely an American concoction, although probably put together by Chinese immigrants arriving in the country as far back as the 1920s. There is actually a Beijing specialty that looks very much like our beloved beef and broccoli, but it calls for Chinese broccoli or Gai Lan.

Either way, beef and broccoli is now a classic, and it doesn’t matter where it comes from; we love it anyway.

Why Do Beef and Broccoli Work So Well Together?

Here’s the deal. Beef and broccoli is part of the stir-fry family, in which you cook your ingredients together over high heat and in just minutes; that’s why I recommend using a wok. This is the original fast food.

Beef is a fantastic source of protein, but it takes a bit more time to cook. On the other hand, Broccoli cooks in minutes, so you would traditionally add it once the beef was cooked through. The sauce and the condiments bind everything together. And all happens in minutes, so you have to work fast.

Adding foods that take different cooking times into the wok is the best way to put together a stir-fry, which is why beef and broccoli are perfect together.

How Easy Is It To Cook Beef And Broccoli?

If you don’t have a wok, you should really consider getting one; they’re excellent investments that will allow you to cook Asian-inspired meals, including stir-fries and noodles, in minutes. They also allow you to cook with very little oil.

While you get your wok, your best bet is to use a thick-bottomed skillet. Remember, you must stir the food all the time.

Cooking beef and broccoli is incredibly easy, and the result is a dozen times better than takeout. We’re talking restaurant-quality here, and ready in a few minutes? You can’t ask for more!

Recipe Variations for Beef And Broccoli

The cool thing about beef and broccoli is that you can change and adjust them to your liking. Stir-fries are the very definition of customizable meals.

One thing you might want to do is substituting the red pepper flakes for fresh slices of peppers. That will add a thrilling layer of heat to your dish.

You can always add a splash of teriyaki sauce to your concoction to make it sweeter and more umami-rich. You can’t go wrong with a splash of soy sauce either, just add a little, taste, and adjust.

We’re quite pleased with the recipe below, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t make it your own.

Can you share the original recipe? I went to make this and see that it changed. I really liked the original and already have all of the ingredients. Willing to try the new one if I had the ingredients on hand which I don’t currently.
